June 16, 23, 30--- One Service at 10:30 AM
This summer at TUUC, we’re taking things broad. We’re going big. We’re going for totality, and the places along this often chaotic path to truth and meaning where we may stumble upon and experience that sense of the universal.
Just because it’s summer, and it’s fun, and because we can, we’ll use the wonderful Douglas Adams’ internationally beloved and deliberately misnamed trilogy of five books, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, as our inspiration. Full of zen-like absurdities, the rollicking space adventures of Arthur Dent and his friend, Ford Prefect, along with a colorful host of inter-dimensional travelling companions, may hold a few resonant truths for us all. If, as the book supposes, the answer to The Meaning of Life, The Universe and Everything is indeed 42, then what is The Ultimate Question? New – and whimsical – ways of looking at things are always enjoyable parts of the journey. Come wander with us this summer!
In fellowship with the TUUC Young Adults group (the YA’s), we’re excited to kick off the summer worship program this year with a Family Pot Luck and Movie Night on Friday, June 14th, at which we’ll show the 2005 movie adaptation of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (rated PG), starring Sam Rockwell, Zoe Deschanel and Alan Rickman. Watch the TUUC Facebook group and Weekly News for details as the summer kickoff approaches.
This summer, Sunday worship services will feature a few congregational favorites, like the participatory Storytelling and Poetry services (watch Weekly News for calls for submissions). Guests will include a few new-to-some/familiar-to-many faces in the pulpit, as Terry Ellen, Karen O’Rourke, Max Mutchler and Greg Koren will all do the honors on different Sunday mornings through the summer. After the movie night on the 14th, we’ll kick the summer off on Father’s Day, June 16th (all about The Hitchhikers’ Guide), followed by CUUP’s Midsummer celebration on June 23rd. As calendars finalize, the Lay Worship Associates will publish a detailed summer service calendar the moment it becomes available. Stay tuned.
